Samsung – Event Management

About the Client

Samsung Africa invested in a training academy known as the Samsung Engineering Academy, a CSR activity to help bridge the technical and electronics skill gap in major African markets such as Nigeria. Samsung collaborated with the Lagos Eko Secondary Education Project, a World Bank-assisted initiative aimed at developing vocational skills in computer and allied services for students of public secondary education.

Brief

Upticomm was briefed to manage the first graduation ceremony of the flagship Academy in Lagos. The objectives were four-pronged: create goodwill, generate publicity, build loyalty and brand equity.

Our Work
  • Upticomm adopted a three-pronged approach comprising the build-up, the event, and the post-event.
  • The build-up: Upticomm recommended that the venue of the graduation be closer to the Academy so that more graduands could attend without additional costs. A venue was secured and recced accordingly. The Agency designed and printed branding and promotional collateral and managed the media before and after the event.
  • Activities included rehearsal and briefing of the graduating students; a tour of the Academy on arrival; a themed venue; a ceremonial procession; and the presentation of graduates. Other activities include the presentation of certificates and awards, speeches, group photos, and the distribution of souvenirs and refreshments. The Media community was aptly represented.
  • MD, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim; Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Training Board, Mr. Olawunmi Gasper; and Special Adviser to the Governor, Lagos Eko Secondary Education Project, Ms. Ronke Azeez, were among the dignitaries, including parents, that attended the event.
  • The event met and exceeded set objectives, to the delight of Samsung management and partners
